Notes:

I continue to struggle with proportion -- notice the size of the head realtive to the body.
I do a better job when I make my copy larger than the orignal. Everything seems to fall apart when I make my drawing smaller than the original. (Less room to cheat, I guess.)

For some reason I found it impossible to find my groove with this page
It didn't help that the drawings in the book I have differ from the first edition
Proportions continue to haunt me

Lookie what I got today!

Which some of you may better know as this:

Love having my own copy of the book! It's OK working from the copies that Steve Worth had generously provided over at the Animation Archive. But there's nothing quite like having your very own copy!

Between the book and all of the model sheets I've got to work on, I could be kept busy for years! Hope to be back soon.

Notes:

I found myself going a little squirrely by the end of this one ... 22 squirrels later!
I have issues with jowls / cheeks
I tend to squash the poor squirrel's head somewhat
many of my proportions are off from the model sheet, but I decided to not spend too much time worrying about that and go for overall effect
these weren't Photoshopped for comparison because I a) don't have the time and b) couldn't stand the embarrassment!

Here are the rest of the hands from Lesson Nine
I've highlighted some of my favourite hands. Not necessarily favourite because I matched proportion -- just a feeling I had about the hand. Typically it was one that I didn't think too hard about -- the kind that just "happens."
I consistently had issues getting the "fleshy" parts of the digits and palm to look fleshy. At least to look as fleshy as Blair's.
Wahoo! I'm finally caught up on my lessons. It's a good thing that JohnK took the summer off from teaching!

After a two month break, it took quite a while for my hand to become reacquainted with the pencil and paper
I'm not focusing on proportion as much as the previous lessons (won't be doing digital comparisons), because I want to make sure I focus more on perspective and variation

I have a much better appreciation for the ease of learning the basics through generic character shapes (and a better understanding of the character choices in this kids show)

I love Katie Rice's style, everything she does is so fun and free
It's horribly hard to reproduce "fun and free"
I need a special Katie Rice tutorial on hair
