If your child is missing, turn your phone to vibrate
This is an idea that recently came in handy. If you're out and a child wanders off who is labeled with your cell phone number, take your cell out of your purse / backpack / pocket, turn it to vibrate and carry it in your hand. The ambient noise at fairs or indoor playgrounds can often be so loud that it's impossible for you hear your cell phone ring.
This could save you a lot of heartache if someone is trying to call!

MLF&H: Do child ID wristbands work?
Question: The new child ID wristbands sound like an interesting idea, but do they work?
Short answer: Yes they do!
Long answer: We were recently out on a day trip with offspring and friends with offspring. I provided wristbands to all the kids on our group. In the event they got separated from the adults they were each instructed to find a mommy and show her their new "bracelet."
As fate would have it, we found ourselves in an area with a large play structure -- the kind that's at least two stories tall with slides and mirrors and multiple compartments into which parents are not always able to see. The kind where it's not uncommon to lose sight of your child for a couple of minutes.
Except that we lost sight of one of the children for longer than a couple of minutes. The remaining children were sent through the structure to find the missing child. No luck. A few minutes later my cell phone rang. The missing child had wandered out of the "play" area and shown a mommy their bracelet!
Thank you Mabel's Labels for your "my 411 wristbands!"

If you're in a situation like this, as soon as you realize a child is missing, I recommend taking your cell out of your purse / backpack / pocket, turning it to vibrate and carrying it in your hand. The ambient noise at fairs or indoor playgrounds can be so loud that it's impossible for you hear the cell phone when it rings.

Hope notes
Lollipop Goldstein has been live blogging from BlogHer and mentioned an amazing project called Hope Notes. From the website:
"hopeREVO began one evening when I decided to hide encouraging notes around New York City. This simple act inspired other people who heard about it to do the same in their cities. Days later, my inbox was flooded with messages from people spreading hope in their communities, after reading about it on my blog, and as it propagated through the Internet on other sites. So, I decided to develop this website to start a hope revolution."
The idea of Hope Notes is simple:
"Create a stackful of notes with messages of hope and leave them in public places. Blog about it. Tell your friends and family about it. Post photos of your notes to the hopeREVO Flickr group. Or be completely anonymous. Follow your own heart."
Here's my favourite from the Hope Notes site. (I couldn't find it in the Flickr group to give it proper attribution. I'm happy to add attribution if someone can point me to the photographer!)
