The 10th Doctor and Captain Picard do Hamlet

From the PBS website:

Shakespeare’s immortal “To be, or not to be” takes on a whole new meaning (and medium) as classical stage and screen actors David Tennant and (recently-knighted) Sir Patrick Stewart reprise their roles for a modern-dress, film-for-television adaptation of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) 2008 stage production of Hamlet. The production will be presented on PBS by the Great Performances series on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at 8 p.m. EST (check local listings)

The eleventh hour

Shout out to Space, the Canadian TV station hosting Doctor Who. According to the website, they'll be starting the new season, featuring Matt Smith, starting this Saturday! (And hopefully, they'll continue to host the episodes online as well.) [h/t: The Doctor Who Blog]

Also from The Doctor Who Blog:

Season Fnarg of Doctor Who premieres on Space on 17 April, and for every person who doesn’t watch it, a unicorn will die. It’s in good hands here in Canada, and your blogger for one would heartily encourage all those reading this to support it at its new home for as long as its new home is happy to support it.

I had the good fortune to watch Matt Smith in Party Animals when it aired on TVO and I'm confident he'll do brilliantly in his new role!

For those who are interested, Matt Smith was interviewed by Jian Ghomeshi on CBC One yesterday. You can find the podcast here (Matt Smith starts about the 20min mark):

Where the birdies is

Check out "Where the birdies is," a publication by Michael Renouf. Michael has a gift for illustrative puns and his style is clean as well as pleasing to the eye. Check out his blog, Non-Stick Plans.

Then buy his book at Lulu.com!

From Michael's post:

My first, experimental, effort in this direction could loosely be described as a book - it's more of a glorified pamphlet - and it's up on Lulu now. It's called 'Where the Birdies is' and is a sort of ornithillogical anthology of 60 birdie-themed drawings (plus the one above on the cover and a little one on the half-title page) from this very blog.

Being Lulu and print-on-demand it's neither perfectly printed (partly due to my habit of using gradients for backgrounds) nor cheap. Am I doing a good job of selling it to you? It's paperback, 7.5" (19cm) square, 64 pages, in full colour (apart from the black and white bits). It even has a contents page, like a proper book. It's only available on Lulu for now.
