Van Gogh and The Lodger

Ooops, I missed the window to post the link to Space streaming Vincent and the Doctor. Which is too bad, because Tony Curran was fabulous as Van Gogh! (And isn't it interesting that the name is pronounced differently across the pond.) If you missed it and want to catch up on some of the details visit DWIN's Tardis File for the episode.

This week, Space has The Lodger streaming from it's website. The episode is a good bit of fun in and of itself. Don't have time to watch the whole episode? Then watch this YouTube edit of the episode in the style of The Odd Couple.

One bad weed

From the CBC website:
Biologists and health officials in eastern Ontario are scrambling to contain an invasive plant that can cause blindness and severe burns.

Heracleum mantegazzianum, or giant hogweed, is a poisonous plant most recently found growing in Renfrew County, west of Ottawa.
The Globe and Mail reports that the weed is also making headway into parts of British Columbia.

The Globe article also states that the Invasive Plants Council of British Columbia recommends an expert wear waterproof gloves, a rubber raincoat and pants and eye protection when they're removing the worrisome weed!

Don't be getting this one confused with Queen Anne's Lace.

For more information, visit OntarioWeeds.com

Trivia:
Genesis had a song titled "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" which can be seen on YouTube.

Interesting lyric:
Still they're invincible,
Still they're immune to all our herbicidal battering.

Project Honey Pot

Project Honey Pot continues to fight the good fight against spammers and e-mail harvesters. From their site:

We also work with law enforcement authorities to track down and prosecute spammers. Harvesting email addresses from websites is illegal under several anti-spam laws, and the data resulting from Project Honey Pot is critical for finding those breaking the law.
Visit their site to participate or to learn How to Avoid Being Harvested by Spambots.

Get streetcar arrival times sent right to your cell.

Toronto's public transit system is making use of vehicle GPS to provide streetcar arrival times directly to your cellphone via text message.

While the TTC isn't charging for the service, standard cell phone carrier rates apply.

According to this CBC article, this messaging system will be put in place for buses later this year.

Visit the TTC website for instructions on how to use the service.
