Ability vs ego

The summer television scheduling is taking effect, which means an astounding number of "talent search" reality television shows. I don't watch much television, but I have to say that based on my limited number of observations, there appears to be an unspoken rule that looks like this:

The museum of forgotten art supplies

The Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies -- "where tools of the trade that have died or have just about died a slow slow death are cheerfully exhibited."

A wonderful site devoted to art supplies you don't see very often anymore. Some of which I've never seen. Many of which I still use and covet!

!Good != bad

A wise man once said to me that "the absence of something good isn't the same as having something bad."

A variation on Craig's $50 bill rap

Craig has a life observation that goes like this:

"If someone was standing on the corner handing out fifty dollar bills, there'd still be people complaining that they didn't get their favorite serial numbers."
How could I resist?

Decorated moose

I know my timing's a little off. However, if I left it in the "ideas" folder it would never get done.

No matter how you decorate it, a moose is still a moose!

recent reviews of Mabel's Labels

Regular readers will notice that the advertising real estate has changed hands around this here blog. A significant portion of it is going to promote Mabel's Labels. (Did I mention I am a direct sales agent of theirs?) I was going to write a little blurb about how wonderful the product is, but I'm a little biased.

So here's a smattering of recent review by people who have nothing to gain by reviewing the product. I don't personally know any of the reviewers, but I love what they have to say! (I should also add, that I've edited their hyperlinks to go directly to my agent site.)

From Rocks in My Dryer:

"I'm impressed with this product and the clever mom-thinking behind it. I'm giving them a 4.5-rocks rating."

From Hesse Family CEO:
There are a hundred and one uses for these neat-o labels, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

From Strollerderby:

Mabel's Labels offers a fun update on the classic iron-on labels that your mom put on all your clothes when you went to camp, plus several innovations on the theme, including washable
adhesive labels for both clothing and food containers/utensils, and an especially useful idea: an allergy alert label that allows you to indicate foods your child needs to avoid, so that teachers and caregivers are reminded and mistakes can be more easily avoided. In a busy daycare center or classroom, this could be a lifesaver.

From Vegan Lunch Box:
I love the labels, but here's what I really wanted to share, especially for those of you dealing with food allergies: Mabel's also sells Allergy Labels. How cool is that? You can detail what your child is allergic to and put it on everything they will eat and drink from during the day.

From Thoughts and Ramblings:
My MIL got me labels from Mabel - you can order them online. My favourite? The classic stickies! They stick to EVERYTHING - even the inside of shoes. Great also for labeling outdoor wear and sippie cups!

Recipe: finger Jell-o

Guaranteed to be a delight with the pre-school set! (Results are similar in consistancy to gummy bears, but cool to the mouth -- a perfect warm weather treat!)

Ingredients:

  • one envelope of Knox gelatine (15 mL)
  • 50 mL room-temperature water
  • 200 mL boiling water
  • one package of Jell-o (85 g)
  • one small casserole-type dish

Instructions:

  • pour gelatin pouch over 50mL of room-temperature water (not in hot water or the gelatin clumps)
  • add 50 mL of boiling water and stir constantly until gelatin is completely dissovled (about 1-2 minutes)
  • add remainder of boiling water (about 150 mL)
  • add package of Jell-o powder
  • mix until Jell-o dissolved
  • pour into small casserole-type dish such that the liquid is at least 2 cm in depth
  • put in refrigerator to set (about 1-2 hours)
  • cut into cubes or strips and eat with fingers!

Promoting the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive

Stephen Worth recently asked folks to promote the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive. My words don't do the project justice. So here are John Kricfalusi's words from an archived post:

"At the Archive, not only can you view the cartoons, you can also see a great collection of cartoon related art- art that inspired many of the animators of the past. Children's book illustrations, comic books, comic strips... it's all there. ASIFA-Hollywood is also collecting interviews and articles about cartoonists, animators and illustrators to tell the history of animation through the stories of the artists who created it."

Swing by, you'll be amazed at what you find!
