Lesson 9A / 10 (Model Sheets) - Part 1 (squirrel)

[Edited to add the model sheet from which I copied.]

(This is either Lesson 9A or Lesson 10, depending on whether you're following JohnK's numbering or the number at ASIFA.)

The $100,000 Animation Drawing Course - Lesson 9A/10 (also seen at ASIFA-Hollywood)

Notes:

  • I found myself going a little squirrely by the end of this one ... 22 squirrels later!
  • I have issues with jowls / cheeks
  • I tend to squash the poor squirrel's head somewhat
  • many of my proportions are off from the model sheet, but I decided to not spend too much time worrying about that and go for overall effect
  • these weren't Photoshopped for comparison because I a) don't have the time and b) couldn't stand the embarrassment!

Guerrilla PSA

We've all been exposed to guerrilla marketing at sometime in our lives. It was only a matter of time before you saw a guerrilla public service announcement! Swing on over to "These Come From Trees" and have a look at the potential impact of a single, simple idea.

Have a look at the places the sticker below has been seen!

Motivation and happiness

[Edited to add Cafe Press info at the bottom of the post.]

This doodle is loosely based on a lecture by Marc Fournier (University of Toronto) discussing findings by psychologist Edward Deci. Specifically:

One of the foremost researchers in the area of motivation is psychologist Edward Deci at the University of Rochester. Deci's model suggests that students will be more motivated to learn when particular needs have been met. Deci articulates three such needs:
(a) to feel a sense of belonging and connectedness to the school (I would add the words "to feel welcome"),
(b) to feel a sense of autonomy and self-determination, and
(c) to feel competent. (skillset and level of challenge must be appropriately matched)

In his lecture, Fournier suggested that these are three universal psychological needs (to be choiceful, connected to others, to feel capable) shared by all people and that all three are of equal importance. If these needs are not met, it will impact:
  • our ability to meet our full potential
  • our capacity to grow
  • our ability to flourish and thrive
  • our ability to experience happiness

D - E - F - I - N - I - T - E - L - Y

D - E - F - I - N - I - T - E - L - Y, one of the most misspelled words on the internet. So much so that it has it's own domain name to help remind us how it's supposed to be spelled.

Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp

Sorcerers Safari will be running its 6th annual March Break Session from March 12 - 16, 2007.

This is a fun, magical sleep-over camp experience that your young magician will never forget! 5 days of pure magic, outdoor activities and cookouts. Plus special guests and live magic shows every evening, presented by professional magicians from across Canada! And don't forget the campers also present their own magic show on the last day for their families and friends! There is so much going on in the week, your child's magic cannot help but improve.

This March camp session is like a mini version of the summer camp, which is now in its 11th year. It provides a great introduction to the Sorcerers Safari family.

Professional props and the magic instruction on offer will enhance your magical performances immediately.

Campers often have the opportunity to present their magic shows in professional settings afterwards too. Sorcerers Safari presents many public shows throughout the GTA during the year, helping the campers stay in touch with each other, keeping them up to date with the magic scene in Toronto and running a small club. This way the camp experience continues well after the camp session is over. You don't want to miss this special one-of-a-kind magical experience!!
